Ben Between Africa

Christmas 1975 my uncle Ben Gamber walked into a post office in Mombasa, Kenya and mailed what would become his final letter. A few days later his body was found and flown home to Ethiopia where he had grown up the oldest son of Mennonite Missionaries.

As a kid, my family didn't talk about Ben or much about their time as missionaries, which made me wonder if there was a connection between Ben's death, his final letter, and a feeling that we were irrecoverably fractured as a family.

Is it possible that forty-two years later Ben's letter could still be out there?

The Latest

Friends! The film is done!  It's been an amazing adventure that has required creativity and growth to find our way through it.

I am currently working on a festival and distribution strategy and hope the film will premier in festivals this fall. I am also planning to host private screenings in Oakland, CA andHarrisonburg, VA. These screenings will be fundraisers to help support film festival submissions and travel. If you have any suggestions for community screenings I'd love to hear them.
