Dear Ben is a personal and historical feature length documentary about Ben Gamber, the oldest son of Mennonite Missionaries who grew up in Ethiopia during the politically transformative era of the 1960s and 70s.
In 1975 at 25 years old, Ben would die under mysterious circumstances. Grief stricken, his parents would return to America and pack all memories of him away in an attic.
This film is about what was found in those boxes.
It's been a year since we kicked off our post production fundraiser, our goal was to have a completed film by Summer 2023. Although we are in line to hit this goal I have decided to instead pause and apply to completion grants and work in progress fellowships. I believe we have a strong story and as a first time feature director I'd like to explore opprotunities to develop as a storyteller and build my documentary community. I always love hearing from you so please reach out if you have any questions or comments.
